My name is Katniss Everdeen. Why am I not dead? I should be dead.

Katniss Everdeen, girl on fire, has survived, even though her home has been destroyed. Gale has escaped. Katniss's family is safe. Peeta has been captured by the Capitol. District 13 really does exist. There are rebels. There are new leaders. A revolution is unfolding.

It is by design that Katniss was rescued from the arena in the cruel and haunting Quarter Quell, and it is by design that she has long been part of the revolution without knowing it. District 13 has come out of the shadows and is plotting to overthrow the Capitol. Everyone, it seems, has had a hand in the carefully laid plains--except Katniss.

The success of the rebellion hinges on Katniss's willingness to be a pawn, to accept responsibility for countless lives, and to change the course of the future of Panem. To do this, she must put aside her feelings of anger and distrust. She must become the rebels' Mockingjay--no matter what the personal cost.

My Review

Katniss has survived even if her home, District 12 hasn't. We follow the story of her trying to come to terms with what has happened and the information that follows of the uprising and the part she and everyone else has played/to play.

As much as I enjoyed this book I feel it didn't have quite the same impact as the others. Sure you get your answers to most of your questions and there is still enough blood and murder to keep the gore fans happy but instead of flying through it like I had with the previous two I found myself having to work at it. I wasn't happy about what happens with and to some of the characters although it is still written well enough to keep you reading.

I think part of the problem for me as well is the first two are so packed and crammed and a lot of it is new whereas by the time your at the third one you expect a lot of what is going to happen and are very familiar with the story. Also Katniss changes(as does a few of the characters personalities), from being an unbeatable character who nothing seems to penetrate to being fairly vulnerable in this book (I think this went down well with a lot of fans but irked me!). Still enjoyable and a great wee trilogy series, 3/5 for me this time.

  1. Again, I skimmed your review because I want to read this for myself but I have heard that this final installment was dissapointing.

  2. In comparison with Hunger Games, MockingJay is a bit of a letdown. If one were to look at the entire story as one rather than three separate books, it is easier to comprehend the changes and accept the story as a whole. While Hunger Games was action packed, MockingJay was more about the final revenge. A bit less climactic, but still a solid story. I have to admit, I prefer Hunger Games to MockingJay, but I think it is because one comes to expect the same action packed excitement, thus disappointment is a given.

  4. I'm listening to it on Audio and not only is Katniss's seeming lack of Katniss-ish strength annoying but the reader makes her dang near namby-pamby! I'm bummed so far.
